Job Title: Dyslexia Therapist / Special Education Teacher
Primary Purpose:
Assist Castro County SSA in the formation of a comprehensive dyslexia program with intervention at the elementary and secondary levels. Work with school faculty and staff, as well as students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum. Assist staff with instructional needs through training, modeling and supporting instruction in the classroom using best practices and research based strategies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Texas Teacher certification
Special Education certification
Licensed Dyslexia Therapist trained in Reading By Design
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Deliver targeted reading intervention through one-to-one and small group instruction to both the 504 and special education population
Collaborate with teachers to analyze data for the purpose of identifying struggling students’ needs, setting learning goals and targets, and problem solving to support continued academic growth in reading
Manage all dyslexia screenings for Castro County SSA
Attend and participate in ARD / 504 meetings for all Dyslexic students and any special education students on
Assist Diagnostician in getting signed consent from parents / guardians
Provide special education support as needed for both Hart and Nazareth ISD
Provide other duties and responsibilities as needed
Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district and school regulations and policies for dyslexia and special education students.
Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other required documents.
Work cooperatively with classroom teachers, special education and Diagnostician to modify regular curricula as needed.
Assist Special Education teacher in writing PLAAFP and Reading Goals
Clerical Duties as needed
