Parent Involvement Policy

Statement of Purpose

Hart Independent School District is committed to providing quality education for every child in this district and to establish partnerships with parents, teachers and our community. Parental support for the children and the school is critical for the success of all children and the school. The goal of Hart ISD is to create and promote a collaborative educational environment, encouraging participation and involvement from all stakeholders.

Hart ISD strives to include parents in all aspects of the district’s Title I decision making processes, building strong school-home partnerships that will help all students in the district to succeed.

Parental Involvement in Developing Programs

An advisory committee comprised of parents, community members, school staff and administrators will address the design, implementation, and review the district’s parental involvement policy. The committee will meet at least once a year at a time convenient for parents.

Annual Title I Meetings

There will be two annual campus level meetings, one in the fall and one in the spring semester of the school, for parents and other community members to receive information regarding the Title I Program. Participants will receive Title I Program guidelines, copies of the district’s current Parental Involvement Policy, and offered an opportunity to become involved in revising and updating the policy.

Translation will be available for non-English speaking parents and community members. Parents will be sent written notices about the meeting date and time and will also be contacted via the school messenger system.

School-Parent Compact

In accordance with Title I regulation, each school must develop a compact, outlining the responsibilities for parents, students, and staff. Parents and community members will have an opportunity to have input in designing the compacts.

A copy of the compact is found in each of the campus handbooks, which is made available to students and parents during registration for the secondary campus and during the first week of school for the elementary campus.

Matching Programs to the Needs of Our Community

Each year, the school district will assess the needs of parents and children in the community through a variety of measures, including questionnaires and surveys so that the district program can be tailored to meet those needs. Workshops and other programs will be sought to match those expressed needs. Parents will be notified of parent education opportunities, including conferences, seminars, and workshops that are available to them. Parents will be notified by each individual school. Parents may contact the school office at any time to express an interest in a particular workshop topic of to offer suggestions.

Staff/Parent Communications

Communications with parents will be conducted via electronic venues, written notices, phone calls, conferences, and home visits as needed throughout the school year. Parents are encouraged to take the initiative in calling their child’s teacher when there is a concern. Parents may also make request for translation. All correspondence will be sent home in English and Spanish. Staff will receive training on how to improve home-school communications and the importance of parental involvement.

Evaluation

There will be an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the Title I parental Involvement Program. Parents will be asked for their input in the evaluation. The evaluation may include an assessment of the policy as well as recommendations for improvement. The results of these assessments will be shared with the advisory committee. The committee will review the results and make recommendations for revisions of the policy as deemed necessary.
