Katie Lawson

October 25, 2011

Hello,

My name is Katie Lawson. I am teaching one of the kindergarten classes this year. I am really enjoying getting to know my students. They are a great bunch of kids!

I live in Happy. I am married to Ike Lawson. We have two daughters, Lynn who is three years old and Hannah, who is almost four months old. My family is my whole world. We attend the First Baptist Church in Happy.

I attended WTAMU in Canyon. I graduated in 2010 with my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. My minor is English. My teaching certificate is for English/Language Arts/Reading 4-8. I am currently pursuing my certificate for EC-6 Generalist.

Kindergarten has been working very hard on Daily 5. The students rotate through different activities as groups. Students work on writing,  word work, read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, and meet one on one with me or in small groups for guided reading or tutorials for individualized instruction.

In Math we are learning through centers. Some of the centers we have involve sorting, counting objects 1-10, forming numerals 1-10 with play doh, cubes, pencils, and other medium. We are also learning about patterns with colored cubes. determining the pattern core, and translating patterns with letters. The kids are doing great with translating! Kindergarten has also been working hard learning and identifying the days of the week and months of the year. Ask your kindergartener to sing their songs & show you their dance. It is a lot of fun!

Please feel free to visit our classroom, room 13. If you would like to volunteer in our classroom, feel free to contact me at katie.lawson@region16.net.
